Credibility Part 2: Intimacy

Written by Tom on June 13th, 2012 | Permalink

Okay how fun was it to decide to write about the “i” word. Lots!

Intimacy is a misunderstood word. So whatever image it conjures up for you just enjoy that for a moment.

What intimacy really means is emotional closeness. In the Experience economy, intimacy is critical to your overall capacity to build credibility. It is a direct relationship. Your credibility will be directly related to your capacity to create emotional closeness.

Client intimacy is not about the context of their private lives it is about an emotional connection about the matters at hand. Intimacy is driven by an emotional honesty, a willingness to expand the bounds of acceptable topics, while maintaining mutual respect and by respecting boundaries. Ultimately, greater intimacy means fewer subjects are barred from discussion.

That wasn’t so bad was it? Somehow I feel closer to you already.
