Today’s blog is a repost from one Dennis wrote in 2014. It’s message is one that he’s been thinking about lately, this notion of try, try, try.
I’m feeling for Sir Mick these last few days since the tragic loss of his girl. As my buddy Joe pointed out, tragedy is the great leveler of humankind. Nobody wanted to be Mick Jagger the day he heard his girl had died.
The Rolling Stones song You Can’t Always Get What You Want is a favorite of mine. In fact, I like it more every time I hear it, and what I am zeroing in on now is one word.
“But if you try sometime, you just might find you get what you need.”
What you need is to create great things for people who deserve them. It would be great to have universal appeal. It would be great to have fifty zillion people who buy your book or read your blog. It would be great to get interviewed and say something great that will touch millions of people. All that would be great.
But if you try sometime, you just might find that what you have today is what you need to be grateful for. Look after today. Tomorrow you just might find you have another person to care about.
Don’t worry about what could be, worry about what is.
Here is the version I listened to while writing.
