So to summarize:
- We all have things we pay a premium for (tangible goods or intangible services) because the good or service has special meaning to us. When something is unique and different and personally relevant, it’s easy to pay a premium. This is what I told myself what I paid $180 for a day pass to ski Whistler.
- There is a choice then – you can be worth the extra cost, or you can do as little as possible to justify charging as little as possible. Most people, without even realizing it, choose this second option, the race to the bottom.The race to the bottom is about doing as little as possible; the race to the top is about doing more – more of what was never asked or expected.
- Do you think you are incapable of being in the race to the top? Has anyone ever told you, even once, that you were amazing? Then you were. And you can do it again.
