So to summarize:
Don’t kid yourself — do better work that is interesting, generous and worth talking about. Steve Jobs and Apple set out to make incredible stuff that people would love. When the guys in marketing told him that it would be too expensive for people to buy, he disagreed. People want amazing and they share it.
Reach fewer people, not more people. Find one person with the problem you can fix, and fix it with more humanity and generosity than the last guy. That’s all. Do that over and over again, and the numbers will look after themselves.
Once again, if it doesn’t feel hard, gross and/or uncomfortable, it means you are not trying hard enough, or doing any work that is amazing enough. The color beige isn’t anyone’s favorite color.
