What did you do New Years Eve?
A confession: While I am not a big fan of New Year’s Eve or any big party where too many people get excessively drunk, I am a fan of resolutions.
Like an empty notebook, the possibilities of the year ahead are exciting to me. Win, lose or draw, last year is over and we are starting fresh.
And the most incredible opportunity to make an impact is where expectations are lowest.
Right now that is leadership. When you get back to work in the New Year, everyone will expect you to get in line and follow, not lead.
The opportunity this year might be bigger than ever: to lead change, to create a movement, to start a conversation and take your tribe in a direction you want to go. Let the rest of the world huddle together and hold back while you make some work that matters.
Here are the five things I plan to do this year. You’re welcome to join me.
- Focus more on something I love.
- Quit something that isn’t working.
- Spend more time living in the present.
- Break a single bad habit.
- Be happier (I’m already happy, but happiness is everything.)
One last item …
Thanks for tuning in and giving me a reason to think and try harder. What a gift.
