Impatience as a Virtue

Sometimes, to make something really good, you have to be patient.

Wine has to age.
Meat has to hang.
Fruit and vegetables need time in the sunshine to ripen.
A well-written novel takes a long time to create memorable characters and a story that can capture you.

When you rush things, you don’t’ always end up with anything worth very much.

However …

Sometimes we tell ourselves that we need more time, when what we are actually doing is hiding. We stall and get busy doing other things and think about our idea, not because the idea needs more of our time, but because we are afraid to share our work.

Impatience isn’t always so terrible, especially if it helps you push yourself through the fear that is holding you back.
