“You can do anything, but not everything.” – DMW
When you are in business for yourself, it’s tempting to see every opportunity as your opportunity. What you’ll find is that opportunities are like buses, and there is one leaving every day.
The trick is to know the right bus, be patient enough to wait for it, and get on it when it comes.
I’m just back from our semi-annual business retreat, and Tom and I had a number of great ideas. I don’t think we had a bad one. What we did have were some great ideas that didn’t fit, however, and in that sense were not great enough.
The point is, you can do anything and mean everything to a small, specific group of people, but when you try to be everything to everyone, you won’t be able to get anything right.
Be all things to some people. Nobody else even has to know you exist.
